Basic Allowance For Housing (BAH)
Your BAH will be used in one of two ways. You can either rent on base or you can live off base. If you live off base, you can either rent or buy. Click Here for current BAH rates.

Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base New Orleans is home to the 159th Fighter Wing and is located near Belle Chasse, Louisiana. Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base New Orleans has two operating runways and contains a military airport known as Alvin Callendar Field which is located just a few miles from the city of New Orleans. NAS JRB New Orleans maintains a 24-hour capability to support launches and recoveries of U.S. Coast Guard Sea-Air Rescue. The Naval Air Station had “Joint Reserve Base” added to its name in 1994. Housing at NAS JRB New Orleans is public-private venture homes located at the naval station in Belle Chasse and the Naval Support Activity in Algiers. There are over 900 housing units available included 500 townhomes and 400 residences with two, three, or four bedrooms. For those looking to live off-post, the housing office can assist with BAH rates which should cover rent and utilities. Military personnel are requested to check in at the Navy Housing Welcome Center and fill out a housing application to be placed on a waiting list. Eligible personnel must request housing within 30 days of arriving at the joint base. Temporary lodging is available at the Navy Lodge which is located about 10 minutes from NAS JRB New Orleans. The reservation desk is open 24 hours a day/7 days a week and can be reached at 504-678-3419. Other options for temporary lodging include the Riverside Hotel, the Holiday Inn and the La Quinta.
Students living on post will attend school in the Plaquemines Parish School District in Belle Chasse. The district is home to three elementary schools, 1 middle school, and 1 high school. Louisiana also has a number of private schools that have a religious affiliation. Public schools in the New Orleans area are free but do require students to wear uniforms. The New Orleans Child Development Center offers full day care for children from 6 weeks to 5 years of age. Whether children live on or off base, programs are offered to all military dependents. Fees are based on total annual family income, and after school child care programs are offered at most schools. There is a waiting list for infants and preschool children.
