    Housing Information
    The military provides two options for the use of your Basic Allowance For Housing (BAH). The first is living on base. Your second option is using your BAH to rent or buy a home off base.

    • The Housing Services Office (504) 678-3280. Contact the HSO as soon as you know you are moving. You will be provided with the latest information on local housing as well as referral services and relocation assistance. They offer counseling and guidance before entering into a lease agreement and help resolve tenant-landlord disputes.

    New Orleans, often referred to as NOLA, is located in the wetlands of southern Louisiana on Lake Pontchartrain, Lake Borgne, and the Gulf of Mexico. This unique and historical area is known for its love of celebrations, southern charm, and distinct mix of cultures. 343,800 people reside in the city itself; the larger metro area, including the cities of Metairie and Kenner, have well over 1.1 million residents. A typical commute in the NOLA area is about 22 minutes. The state's second largest city and capital is Baton Rouge. This city is located about 1.5 hours northwest of JRB New Orleans. Houston, Texas, is about 2 hours 45 minutes to the west. 

    About the Installation
    Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base New Orleans is home to the 159th Fighter Wing and is located in the heart of Belle Chasse, Louisiana. This base has two operating runways and contains a military airport, Alvin Callendar Field, located just a few miles from the city of New Orleans. NAS JRB New Orleans maintains a 24-hour capability to support launches and recoveries of U.S. Coast Guard Sea-Air Rescue. The Naval Air Station had "Joint Reserve Base" added to its name in 1994.
